We need to find God, and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature--trees, flowers, grass--grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence...We need silence to be able to touch souls. --Mother Teresa

Perfection

We had a very busy weekend. The weather was beautiful and we accomplished quite a bit. Round one of leaf pick up, baking for what we thought was the last fundraiser for the youth at church--turns out we need one more, a super fantastic Halloween, laundry, and a fairly clean house. We ended the weekend watching a movie..my choice. Way to kiss up Hays Crew, way to kiss up.

We watched The Proposal. It was a very cute movie and I laughed numerous times. It seems like a chick flick at first, but Coach also laughed out loud numerous times. It really was very funny. Well worth the time and rental money. And it was great to watch it as a family. Ryan Reynolds is very cute and Sandra Bullock is her usual hilarious self.

Fundraiser for the youth.....we have had one a month or maybe even two a month for over a year. Bake sales, dinners, fireworks stand and pizza sales. It has been wild crazy trying to raise $20,000 for the youth to attend the National Catholic Youth Conference in KCMO this month. We are sending 22 youth and 4 adults.

Yesterday was what we had hoped would be the last fundraiser we would need--but we didn't make enough money to cover it. We had a chili feed. I don't eat chili. I haven't had chili since 1998. Another post at a later date for that one. But anyway. The youth have worked very hard and really have come together as a group. That's been great to see....but only about 75 people from church were at the chili feed. It was quite warm out, but still disappointing. So one more after church bake sale on November 15...4 days before they leave for the conference.

Each kid provides a dessert to be served at the dinner. That means my house needs to provide 2 desserts. I have struggled with what to send. For about 4 months in a row, I have sent the same 2 desserts--brownies with frosting and an oatmeal cake. Well one of the sponsors has been giving me total crap over sending the same things every time. Eh, he can eat my shorts. But this time, I tried something different.....

I was making cinnamon rolls to have with our taco soup on Halloween. We like my cinnamon rolls a lot. But I have never made them to take anywhere because I am just not sure if they are something that others would like to eat. And usually they are so unattractive that taking them somewhere would be, well, embarrassing.

This time, though.....they were perfect. Perfectperfectperfect. Absolutely perfect. Before frosting......

And then I made up a frosting recipe....I know. I made it up! NO lie. And it was good frosting.

Are you jealous? Don't they look delicious? I was so proud of them....it was almost....oh.

My first public event for cinnamon rolls. And only 5 got eaten. Geez. Oh well. When there are 15 desserts to choose from....yeah. So we put them in the freezer to eat later.

Seems like it is later....and that freezer is calling my name. Just sayin'.
