We need to find God, and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature--trees, flowers, grass--grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence...We need silence to be able to touch souls. --Mother Teresa

Snow Day

I really didn't think we would have a snow day today.  I went to bed and there was some beautiful snow gently falling.  There wasn't much traffic and it was quiet and I could hear the snow hitting the leaves that are left on the tree.

When I got up around 3:30...don't ask...and wandered around the house looking out of various windows, there was no way we weren't going to school.  By the time Coach got up around 5:30--a little different story.

My calling chain partner called around 6:40, and unofficially let me know school was canceled.  It seems as though our wing of the chain had a break down and never really got calls.

I watched a little TV and finally got up and made the coffee.  And then continued the tradition.....

....cinnamon rolls on a snow day.  I got my dough started and began doing some house cleaning stuff.  Bathroom, kitchen and vacuuming.  Laundry is caught up and we watched a movie--4 Christmases--together.  It's an OK flick...I laughed hard in several spots.  And my kids didn't know why it was so funny but someday they will.

Now I am going to tackle this little project--

A Christmas tree skirt for my 9 foot Christmas tree.  It's a hugely gigantic tree and I have searched for a hugely gigantic skirt but nothing has caught my eye.  So last year I decided that I would use this old quilt of my Great Grandma Miller's.  It had some kind of bad spots and I really wanted to use it for something.  She always used this quilt on the sofa bed when we spent the night.  It means something to me and I hated that I just had it in a closet not being used.

I cut it out last year--no pattern--just kind of made up what I wanted.  BUT I wanted an antique lace that was really wide to edge it with.  And I was under the impression that I could just walk in to a fabric store and buy it.  No.  Duh.

I have searched and searched and searched some more.

NOTHING.  I give up.  I am going to create a border from the leftover edges that I cut off.  Because I am going to have a tree skirt this year.  And I am going to do it today because I believe that snow days are a gift to be used doing things I love to do.  Cook and sew.

Oh, and those cinnamon rolls?  Quite possibly the best I have ever made.  Just sayin'.

I thought about you and your cinnamon rolls...I made mine last night. Good Luck on your tree skirt, I'm sure it will be lovely.

I was out of yeast! So I made chocolate cake instead. A poor substitute, but better than nothing!

What is it about snow days and cinnamon rolls? I made them, too.
